Welcome to Year 4
This Year our Year 4 students are excited as they move into their brand-new purpose-built classroom.
In English Year 4 are taught a balanced literacy program utilising quality literature. They will be engaged in a range of activities focusing on language, literature and literacy differentiated to their ability level. The strands focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating.
Our Mathematics program utilises a range of quality curriculum programs and high impact teaching strategies to teach the Australian Mathematics Curriculum. At Mawson we believe that Mathematics learning should be engaging, purposeful and practical. Each week in Mathematics, students will be involved in learning that builds mental computation and problem solving skills, grows their knowledge of Mathematical language and provides challenge. Through a mix of hands-on learning and explicit instruction, students will cover content in the strands of number, space, measurement, chance and data. Mathematical concepts will also be integrated into our History, Geography and Science Inquiry units.
Throughout the year we will be integrating our inquiry units across the subject areas of History, Geography and Science. The inquiry unit provides students with a “big idea” that will help them process their world and apply knowledge. It gives them opportunities to make connections across a variety of themes and ideas. Students will engage in higher level thinking, active problem-solving activities and research.
